A Couple of Leaves

In the week of August 17 th , 1998 I took an instensive watercolor painting class. I learned a lot about working with color, and came up with some pretty nice paintings. Here are a few of them. Unless otherwise noted, all the paintings on this page are on 140 lb. Arches watercolor paper (hot-press, cold-press, and rough).

This is a picture of a dried up ivy leaf that I did on the second or third day of class. The assignment was to paint it once in its real colors, then again in imagined ones. [This painting is much better than the one with real colors, so I didn't bother to scan that one in...]

This is a picture of an ivy leaf done on the second day of class. It's on hot-press paper (smooth and absorbent). I guess I'm still undecided on whether I like hot-press or not. I guess cold-press paper just seems more like what watercolor is supposed to be.
